Charles Rutledge, founder of Zenith Surveying, built his career through hands-on field experience across major infrastructure and industrial projects, including pipeline work and the full civil construction of a greenfield petrochemical facility in Corunna.
With a background in Civil Engineering Technology and formal training in law, ethics, and safety, his approach is grounded in real-world application — understanding not just how to collect data, but how that data is used.
Zenith was established to provide a more direct and efficient connection between field data and engineering decisions.

I grew up in Sarnia, Ontario, where most of my time was spent outside — climbing trees, exploring, and trying to understand the world around me. That early curiosity, combined with a growing interest in math around grades six and seven, ended up shaping more of my path than I realized at the time.
That realization led me to transition into Civil Engineering Technology. Geometry — especially complex geometry — became a focus. Surveying introduced a way to take that interest and apply it directly — measuring, interpreting, and defining the physical environment with precision. It wasn’t just theory anymore — it was real, measurable, and meaningful.
As I developed in the field, I worked under experienced professionals and was exposed not just to the technical side of surveying, but also to its legal and ethical responsibilities. I completed the Professional Practice Exam through OACETT, studying law and ethics in detail — reinforcing the importance of accountability, accuracy, and the consequences tied to the data we produce.
Over time I took on larger roles. I worked on pipeline projects and eventually became one of the lead surveyors on the construction of a new petrochemical facility in Corunna — a full greenfield build from nothing to a complete facility. That kind of work demands precision, judgment, communication, and the ability to operate under pressure.
Zenith Surveying was founded the same year my son was born, and the company is named after him. The foundation of Zenith is based on a direct approach to field data — delivering accurate, controlled information from the field that engineers and project teams can rely on immediately, without unnecessary layers, delays, or rework cycles.
That mindset continues to define how I operate today, and how Zenith Surveying continues to develop moving forward.
